Blast cleaning wood may sound a little unusual or extreme
,but when we think about how we would normally remove paint and coatings that’s not actually the case. Traditionally we could use a blowlamp and scraper (risk of burning), paint stripper (toxic) or sanding (laborious), all of which can be relatively slow compared to blasting.
Obviously blasting will not remove stains which have soaked into the wood but we can remove paints and varnishes in a very efficient manner. Blasting will also remove charring due to fire damage as well as moulds and fungi leaving the wood ready for further treatment. We can also strip doors, floors, beams, mantels and furniture, taking them all back to the original appearance, they can then be “finished” as desired.
Blasting works best on hardwoods as on softer woods such as pine there can be some raised grain following treatment, if you have any questions contact us and we will be happy to discuss this with you
